Neal Adams--Happy Birthday! June 15th

Neal Adams was a game changer. He knew about comics and comic strips. He studied art, and though he could not afford college, he went about educating himself.

As a young comic strip artist and illustrator, he learned from the art of Stan Drake, and from illustrators he worked with drawing advertising comic strip art.

He tried breaking into comic books several times but it was difficult as the comic book market was close knit, but mostly closed. He broke in drawing humorous titles, and then a few super-hero stories.

His first superhero work was on the Fly, a character created by Joe Simon.

Neal wanted to draw batman, and he got his chance with the Brave and the Bold.

He redefined Batman and brought him back to his roots.

Neal Adams is willing to speak his mind. In the 70s about conditions for artists. During the last week, with a video for his son, and on his social feed, he writes about his insight and about world, and social cultural, conditions.

Adams also started his own advertising studio, along with Dick Giordano, and Neal later bought him out as the sole owner of Continuity. Neal later started his own line of comics, those titles now on hiatus--with some story lines unfinished.

On a bittersweet note, his writing partner on classic runs, Denny O'Neil, died two days ago at 81.
