Patty Jenkins directed Wonder Woman, and she is getting recognition for it. Jenkins knows the importance of Wonder Woman as an archetypal symbol and did her research. Her other great movie is Monster.
Another great director is Jodie Foster. She directed, among many others, Little Man Tate. If you have not seen it check it out. She also starred in Taxi Driver and Silence of the Lambs. She has acted in many movies including Contact.
Though she was not a director, I recommend the work of actor and producer, Lucille Ball. There would be no Star Trek today without her support in the early 60's.
