Rogue One is diverse! It delivers.

Star Trek was a trailblazer because of its diversity with the cast. It was beyond its time. Roddenberry had planned originally for a female captain but that was too much for the studio. Star Trek almost did not get made as Roddenberry had shopped the show as a "western in space," and had received no bites, until a female megastar stepped in.

Lucille Ball was a funny actress, and an intelligent business woman. Part of her contract stipulated extra money that would be used for her projects. She sponsored and supported the making of the Star Trek show.

About a decade later, a new cool, original (Kings Features wanted to much money for Flash Gordon and therefore Lucas created his own concept) sci-fi movie appeared--Star Wars. It was very unique except it had very little diversity in it, Lando Calrissian (played by Billie de Williams) being an exception.

Of all of the Star Wars movies Rogue One has the most diversity of actors to date, including---no spoilers---but actors mentioned--- Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jimmy Smitts, and many others.

The movie is a bridge from the original trilogy to the prequels. There is much allusions to the original trilogy without being a template---such as, perhaps, the Force Awakens may have been.
