Kenny Baker, who played r2D2, in the iconic Star Wars movies has died after a long illness. The British actor has died at age 81. He was fitted into the Artoo outfit when the robotic version was not used.
Baker was often seen at conventions and collectible shows. According to his site he was born in Birmingham, England, on Aug. 24, 1934.
It is said that you can tell when Baker was in the R2D2 outfit when you could see the black tubes near the bottom of the R2 unit. George Lucas and Ms. Kennedy also expressed their loss and appreciation of Baker.
